About ‘Watatita’

The ‘Watatita’ Name

If you are farmiliar with traditional Javanese leather puppets called ‘Wayang’, one of the character’s names is called Baladewa. He is a powerful king who rules the Kingdom of Mandura. Baladewa has a catchprase… it’s “Watatita!”. “Watatita” itself has no meaning, it’s similar to saying “Whoa” in English.

However in this project, Watatita” is the abbreviation of Wayang Tentang Tingkah Laku Kita“, which means “Wayang About Our Traits”

Concept of Watatita

I like laughing at myself, I like sarcasm and I like observing the situations around me. Watatita may seem a little sarcastic at times, however it is only the point of view of one person (which is my point of view). The wayang faces that I use in these comics indicates that I am drawing the Indonesian people. This blog is a way for me to express my thoughts and point of views about the Indonesian people (including myself!). Nevertheless, now that I’ve translated it into English, these comics can also relate to everybody across the Earth. I hope these comics can be useful for you 🙂 Enjoy.
