Banner Disaster in Indonesia’s Biggest Cities..

7 Mar

Banners everywheeeere!!

Banners are overused these days. Sometimes we see hundreds of the same banners lined up every two metres,  the colours are loud and  blinding with huge writing. Due to the overwhelming amount, banners can block views, making it hard for some people who are trying to find addresses or landmarks. Other than that, too many banners can give people headaches! Sometimes, banners which used to promote things that have now expired are still being displayed, nobody’s taking it down, it’s left at the side of the street and ends up as rubbish.

Especially when election is on, oh my goodness… raining banners! It’s a disaster we experience every 5 years. Banners everywhere! and after the elections are finished, nobody cleans them up. Is the use of banners the only way you can promote your product – to the point where you have to create THAT many banners? Do you really need to display the same banners every two metres?

Ms. Airin just won the local elections to be the governor of South Tangerang. I suggest that her first job should be to clean up the banner mess. Please help take down the expired banners, and maybe there should be a law to limit how many banners should be displayed. Especially in BSD (Bumi Serpong Damai – or shall we say Banyak Spandung Di mana-mana – Banners Everywhere). Be smart in promoting your products, without having to hang banners everywhere. Use the magazines, the internet, television advertisement. If you’re making a fair amount of banners, and you clean up after the promotion is finished, then that’s still OK. The most important thing is not to block views and to ruin the environment.
